Clear Your Mind and Create Masterpieces

ree

This picture appeared on my phone photo memory last night right before I went to sleep. It was such a beautiful image, I thought it was a screensaver at first, until I saw the date on the photo and realized I captured this moment. I took this photo at a very scenic location in Nashville. I remember being captivated by the beauty of the trees and how the sunlight was visible through the trees, subsequently lighting the path through this wooded area. These types of moments inspire me and cause my creative thoughts to flow freely.

I crave moments that allow me to clear my mind. I find these moments often by taking walks (which is why I can't wait for the warmth of spring to arrive!) Walks in nature and beauty help to inspire me and it is also in those moments that I am my most creative self. In my creative space I hear song lyrics, lines to new poems, ideas for new content, sermon titles, and the list goes on and on! The creativity is endless when I am in a place that allows me to clear my mind and drown out the noise and distractions of the world. I have some rules (also known as healthy boundaries) that I follow when I am on my walks. These rules help me keep these moments sacred and safe.

My creative space rules:

1. No phone calls. (This is not the time for multitasking.)

2. Photos and videos are only to capture content quickly.

3. Don't rush the moment.

4. Take in the beauty in its fullness.

(If I see something beautiful like a blooming flower or butterfly, I stop and admire it. There may be a message in the moment of admiration that I need to take in.)

Wherever your creative space is, a park, a lake, a library, a walking path, a secluded cabin, or a corner booth in your favorite cafe, make sure to allow that place to serve its purpose in inspiring you. Allow your creativity to thrive and have space to expand. As professionals, leaders, entrepreneurs and creatives, it is essential that you clear your mind so that you are free to create masterpieces in the work you do! Have an amazing weekend!

Until next Friday,

L. Walker
