Are you really doing what you love to do?

There's a sign that hangs near my desk that says, "Do what you love and love what you do." Each time I pause to read the sign, I smile, because I am reminded that the work I do in business and ministry is what I absolutely, positively, love to do!

In honor of "love week" I have to do a check-in to ask you an important question. That question is, are you really doing what you love to do? I mean really love your job, work assignments, or business ventures. (Take a moment and think about it.)

What does that look like in reality? Here are some indicators that you love what you do:

  1. You wake up with joy in anticipation of the work you will accomplish.

  2. You see your work as something you "get" to do, not something you have to do.

  3. Your work energizes you.

  4. Your work allows you to tap into your most creative self.

  5. You want to excel in your career field instead of feeling the need to escape from it all.

These are just a few indicators that you love what you do. I'm sure there are many other signs that show the joy you find in your daily work. But, if none of those indicators resonate with you, it may be a sign that you do not love what you do and it's time for a change. Now that I have your attention, I'm going to go ahead and give you some helpful tips on how to move from doing the work you feel you have to do, or continue doing because it's safe, to starting to prepare for the work you dream of doing!

  1. Start working on your dream job or business at least 1 hour per week. (That's right, I said 1 hour per week-that's all). Doing too much too soon can be overwhelming. So, to get started, try 1 hour per week for the first month. You can increase your time as you continue to build towards the life you love!

  2. Start investing in your dream job or business idea. How, you may ask? Take a class, attend workshops, attend online webinars, purchase workbooks -there are many great opportunities to invest in your dream that are quite simple and often times it can be fairly inexpensive. The biggest costs to you will be your time and energy.

  3. START! Just start...start doing something. Less talking, hoping, wondering...just start doing! Every major business that exists today is successful because they had the courage to start. Many had very small and humble beginnings, but they beat the odds and continued building their dream. This could be your story also, but in order for it to happen, you have to get started!

If this post inspired you to get started doing what you love, leave me a note in the comment section! Now, get started doing the thing you LOVE!!!
